Twenty years ago, Jason was pulled into a world of magic and monsters.
He was promised a life of wandering his new home and having adventures, but things got out of hand pretty quickly. He met with kings and gods, fought interdimensional cults, and got in a knife fight with the guy who creates universes. He didn't win. What he'd never done was roam around, having nice, sensible adventures. He hadn't even seen the hometown of his friends, and that had been the first destination on his list.
Two decades on, he'd saved whole civilizations and the Earth, several times. He was freshly returned from a conflict with the fate of the cosmos at stake, where the battlefield was his soul and the combatants were the governing forces of reality. It was a fight he had no chance of winning, which was why he rigged it and pinched the prize while everyone was distracted.
Now, Jason is determined to reunite with his friends and have the simple adventuring life he always wanted. He won't let anyone get in his way, not angelic armies, scheming guilds, or the people who want to talk about that time he altered the fundamental laws of magic. Which isn't as bad as it sounds, he promises.
Jason's taking a gap year, whatever he has to do to make it happen. Manipulate a prestigious noble house into liberating a slave town. Attempt to extort every government on the planet. Blow up and subsequently rebuild the occasional city. Gods help anyone who tries to stop him, but the gods probably won't because they've met Jason and they know how that usually goes.

As good as always
This audiobook series is and will probably always be my favorite.
Hearing Heath Miller intro a new book of He Who Fights with Monsters makes me feel like coming home after a stressful day to relax and enjoy what is about to happen. It is always a treat.
I am looking forward to the next one and can't wait for it already.

reverenzing Boardgames Like a King
really Love the series. well written and spoken!! casually mentioning the boardgame dwellings of eldervale, really suprised me. you should try Andromedas Edge.

Amazing as always
This is book 12 in an ongoing series. If you're here, you probably already love it. If not, Book 1 should be your start.
In any case, these books are great, and I've yet to find another protagonist who scratches the same itch as Jason Asano.

Good book
I dont have much to say other then that its still a great book. In my opinion the audio is better then in every other book.
the only qualm I have is, that some of the scene transitions were a bit "off". In other books they were natural and often gave the reader time to adjust to the new scene. This time the transitions were often very quick and started with dialog instead of a scene description, which often led to momentary confusion on why a character would say something completely unrelated to the conversation. Other it is a good book that closed a few story elements and did a great job at showing the time that has passed between the last book and this one. I am excited for the next book.

Back on earth…
It’s great how the characters develop and how the story continues. This one was a little bit more relaxed but still entertaining. Biggest problem: have to wait for the next one 😂

Jason’s character development
The story could have some more progression but overall gripping and exciting listen. 10/10 would recommend. I hope the next book releases soon🤞

It’s still only getting better and better
With Volume 12, the He Who Fights with Monsters series once again elevates itself to a whole new level and the audiobook turns it into a true experience. The story is clever, emotional, and epic, but it’s the masterful narration that truly brings it to life.
The narrator gives each character a distinct voice and captures even the subtlest nuances (humor, despair, power) with pinpoint precision. It doesn’t feel like you’re listening to a story; it feels like you’re standing inside a vibrant, breathing universe.
In terms of both content and performance, this is top-tier. Just when you think the series has peaked, you’re in for a pleasant surprise: it doesn’t just get better.. it gets bigger, deeper, and more intense.
A must for fans and a prime example of how powerful fantasy can be in audiobook form.

Bin zufrieden
